Hail Storms

A Hail Storm broke our asphalt shingles and our skylights. The storm damage was severe and there were many big roofs destroyed by the large hail storm. The ice that fell from the atmosphere was very large. The hail storm produced softball sized hail stones that damaged roofs, skylights, and siding. The hail damage from the storm made the six o’clock evening news due to the negative impact in the town of McDonnell.

Red cross disaster team was quick on the scene and was their to oversee the rescue process. State Farm teamed up with the Mayor of the community to assess the damage from the large hail storm. The roofing contractors were on the scene within 2 hours installing tarps and helping to process insurance claims.  United Way worked with the roofing contractors by providing  living quarters for them to stay. Although the roofs were torn to shreds and some even had the decking ripped from the rafters, The roof repairs made were emergency only.

The hail storms hit three other states that were as far away as a thousand miles. The storm cells were the biggest ever reported by a civilian. The Tornado winds were the worst for they propelled the hail stones higher into the air which caused greater damage to the roof systems. Gutters as well as siding were ripped away from the structure of the homes. Hail storms can be tough on any structure it hits, but this hail storm really placed a beating on trailers, cars, and even commercial buildings.

The hail storm brought our community together and we began to help each other rebuild their homes. Food was served each and every day by volunteers from a neighboring county. A professional athlete came by to give her support and offer money to the homeless. The emergency broadcast system was instrumental in giving us updates on the hail storm before it actually hit our town. I know that the next time our family will be more prepared.

We have installed a new roof as a result of the hail storm, and our gutters and siding was replaced by a professional roofing contractor. He was one of the local contractors who came highly recommended by the Insurance Company. The roofing company was very good at replacing all the damaged shingles, siding, and gutters. Some of our neighbors did not receive a new roof, but they were able to get their roof repaired. The hail storm taught all of us in our community that we could all come together to recover from the storm damage.
