Roofing Contractor

Selecting a roofing contractor may be a difficult task for there are very few professional roofing companies. The AT&T Yellow Pages is a great source. A roofing contractor provides many different services for the roofing industry. You should check with your local chamber of commerce prior to signing a contract with a roofing company. There are very few regulations on a roofing contractor unlike the electrician and plumber who must possess a license. Homeowners have been financially devastated by many roofing companies due to their poor practices.

The roofing contractor will leave town without paying his materials account. The other hardship the home owner has to deal with is when the roofer does not get paid by the roofing company. Most of the subcontractors will place a labor lien on your home. This is especially true with storm chasing company for they are not here in the local area for any period of time greater than three months.

As a roofing contractor myself, our motivation is to help homeowners in their time of need. Unfortunately, the storm chasing companies give roofing contractors a bad name. With unpaid subcontractors and unpaid material bills, it does not take long to damage any industry with these poor practices. Hopefully in the future there will be further regulation to govern the roofing industry.

There are many roofing companies who wish to do a great job and they do so year in year out. The roofing companies that get listed with consumers choice awards are great companies to engage in business. The Better Business Bureau is a great place to evaluate a roofing company. When in doubt ask for references of at least 20 customers. Make sure that the last 20 customers are from the recent three months.

There are meeting organizations and affiliations that a roofing company may have Association. If the company is not associated with any professional organizations this may be an indicator of an amateur roofing contractor. The local chamber of commerce is a great place to look for an experienced roofing contractor as well.
